Meet Our Founder

Dr. Joseph Fulmore Sr.

Dr. Joseph Fulmore Sr. is a distinguished leader, educator, and advocate whose life work bridges the worlds of public service, education, and community empowerment. A native of Lake City, South Carolina and a graduate of Carver High School, Dr. Fulmore’s journey led him north to Paterson, New Jersey, where he has become a central figure in the city’s civic and educational transformation. He holds degrees from Allen University, Seton Hall University, and William Paterson University, building a foundation that reflects both academic rigor and a deep sense of purpose.

For over a decade, Dr. Fulmore has served as Assistant Superintendent at the Paterson Board of Education, overseeing K–12 schools and working to uplift the educational standards and outcomes for thousands of students. His belief in the transformative power of education is not merely theoretical—it is lived out in classrooms, boardrooms, and the streets of Paterson, where he continues to advocate for equitable access and student success.

Dr. Fulmore’s public service extends beyond the school system. As Deputy Mayor of Paterson, he is a visible and vocal advocate for justice, family stability, and community development. His leadership is rooted in a profound belief in second chances and holistic support, especially for underserved youth and formerly incarcerated individuals.

Through the Fulmore Foundation, Dr. Fulmore has championed initiatives like coat drives, leadership academies for young men, and legal aid events such as clemency workshops. These programs reflect his commitment to meeting both the material and emotional needs of the community, showing up where people are and helping them take steps toward where they want to be.

Whether in his role as a public servant, educator, or nonprofit leader, Dr. Fulmore embodies a rare combination of compassion, discipline, and vision. His story is not only one of personal achievement but of ongoing dedication to lifting others up and reshaping the systems that serve them.
